The Cyclone Dirt Trap bucket insert from Chemical Guys helps sequester dirt when washing your vehicle. Photo courtesy Wheelbase Media

It’s a (dirt) trap

Most people use a regular 20-litre bucket when washing their vehicles, however each time you rinse your sponge or cloth, you risk picking up dirt and other deposits that can scratch the paint. The Cyclone Dirt Trap bucket insert from Chemical Guys helps prevent that.

When placed at the bottom of the bucket (it rests on legs a few centimetres above the base), the Dirt Trap’s hundreds of funnels capture nasty abrasives and keep them away from your wash mitt. Order one or more Cyclone Dirt Traps, available in green, red, blue or black, for $15 each plus shipping from www.chemicalguyscanada.ca.

Shower for the road

Whether you’re camping or spending a day at the beach, the Road Shower 4 solar wash system from Yakima can come in handy. The product consists of a powder-coated aluminum tube that holds 26 litres (seven gallons) of water and attaches to your vehicle’s roof rack. Yakima says that’s enough for three to four showers. Just fill the tube using a standard garden hose and the water will be solar heated to about 110-115 F (43 to 46 C).

It can also be pressurized to 65 pounds per square inch by attaching a bicycle pump or tire inflater to the relief valve. The 55-inch (140 centimetre) hose and nozzle releases the water when needed and a LCD display shows the water’s temperature. The Road Shower 4 sells for US $559 plus shipping, including all necessary hardware, at www.rhinoadventuregear.com.

Guniwheel is compatible with most four- and five-bolt patterns. Courtesy Wheelbase Media

Keep your vehicle moving

Sometimes the vehicle you’re working on has to be moved around the garage or shop while one (or more) of its wheels is missing. Maybe it’s being repaired or painted, or a tire is being mounted. Maybe you have a project vehicle with no wheels at all. This is when the Guniwheel comes in handy.

The Georgia-based company states the product is compatible with most four- and five-bolt patterns, and that the narrow width and hard rubber (airless) compound tire makes it easy to move the vehicle around. The Guniwheel is also useful for avoiding flat-spotting your regular tires during long-term storage. Prices start at US $199 per wheel, plus shipping, of four for US $719 and up, depending on the bolt pattern, from guniwheel.com.
